Celebrating World Ocean Day 2023
12 June 2023
Last week (8 June) marked World Ocean Day, where we celebrate the life source that is the sea.
It covers over 70% of the planet, produces more than 50% of our oxygen, and is home to most of earth’s biodiversity.
But with 90% of big fish populations gone, and 50% of coral reefs destroyed, we’re taking more from the ocean than can be replenished.
With us all feeling the effects of being in a climate emergency, it’s never been more important to do your bit locally to support our oceans.
We partnered with charity Littlefeet Environmental to host a lunchtime beach clean. A group of volunteers from our Jersey team headed out to keep our coastline clean.
Together, they collected and properly disposed of over 16 kilograms of rubbish – including a bike wheel.
Small acts like local beach cleans can have a big impact on a wider scale.
We must all do our bit, because no matter how close or far we are from the sea, we and future generations depend on it.
