Saltgate supports Durrell's 'Cans for Corridors' scheme

The Saltgate Jersey office is involved with Durrell's 'Cans for Corridors' scheme. In essence, the Atlantic rainforest in Brazil is becoming fragmented into tiny pieces due to deforestation. The state of São Paulo is the only place where the critically endangered Lion Tamarin monkey is found. Deforestation in this state has been immense, making way for industrial scale agriculture in the form of sugar cane plantations and cattle farming. For every 50 cans recycled through the Cans for Corridors scheme, one tree is planted in the Atlantic rainforest of Brazil. The number of trees being planted by the scheme is gradually increasing which is slowly joining up the rainforest fragments and helping the Lion Tamarin to thrive again.
